How can I check if my website is down for everyone or just me?
Use a checker that requests the site from somewhere that isn't your machine. This tool sends a real request from Cloudflare's network, so your browser cache, your DNS resolver, your VPN, and your ISP are all out of the picture. If the tool says the site is up but you can't reach it, the problem is on your side of the internet — a stale DNS cache, a proxy, a network filter — and your visitors are most likely fine.
What does this tool count as down?
A server error — any 5xx response — or no response at all within 10 seconds: a timeout, a refused connection, a failed TLS handshake, a name that doesn't resolve. A 4xx response is reported as "up, with errors": the server is alive but answering wrongly at its root, which is a different problem from being unreachable. Redirects are followed, so a site that forwards to www counts as up.
My website is down — what should I check first?
In rough order of likelihood: your hosting provider's status page, because the fastest diagnosis is someone else's incident; whether the SSL certificate has expired, since an expired certificate takes a site down completely for every browser; whether the domain still resolves, because DNS problems and lapsed domain registrations both present as "site gone"; and only then your own application logs. The status code this tool returns narrows it quickly — a 502 or 503 points at the server or its proxy, no response at all points at DNS, the network, or TLS.
The checker says my site is up, but it's down for me. Why?
Because this check runs from one place and you sit in another. A stale DNS answer cached by your machine or ISP, a regional network problem, a VPN or corporate proxy, or a firewall rule can all break the path from you to the site while the rest of the world gets through fine. The reverse also holds: a single "up" from one location doesn't prove every region can reach you — it proves the site answers.
Is this website down checker free?
